A teen with piercing blue eyes, saw-like teeth, and messy dark hair, was on his usual walk home. Deep in thought about random things such as what water brand is the best, which is clearly Arrowhead, he bumps into someone unfamiliar.
“I haven’t seen you around these parts, who are you?” said Nick.
“Oh y’know, just here to visit an old friend of mine. Nothing interesting.” said the stranger.
The stranger, who had slickback light brown hair. Was wearing beige pants, a dark red sweater, and a gold colored vest.
“You.. didn’t answer my question. Who are you?”
“Is it really that important for me to tell you?”
“Well shit, I’m curious, why don’t you just tell me!”
“Why should I?”
“Well, do you want to get your ass beat?”
“Hm, it might be nice to loosen up a bit.”
“You asked for this.”
Nick threw a punch at the stranger, which was easily dodged. Undeterred though, Nick continued to throw attacks at him.
“Didn’t you say I'd get my ass beat?” slightly mocked the stranger.
“You bitch! Come here you little shit!”
“Stop cursing so much jeez.”
Nick didn’t hear this, instead he slammed his hands together in a bite-like manner, manifesting a massive jaw made of water to crash together onto the stranger. The stranger was a bit shocked by this revelation, but aside from getting soaked he was perfectly fine.
“How the hell did that do nothing to you!?” said Nick in shock.
“Hmm.. so you’re one of those…”
The stranger was standing there now, in thought. This gave Nick the perfect opportunity to launch an attack, and so he did. He threw a right hook straight into the stranger's face.
Clap
“Now that wasn’t very nice was it?”
Nick’s fist was held in the stranger’s hand, like a glove catching a baseball.
“Anyways let’s see if I'm right.”
“What the hell?! How did you get that!”
The stranger was examining Nick’s student id.
“So you are Nelson’s brother aren’t you?” questioned the stranger.
There was a bit of a pause before Nick made a reply.
“Don’t you ever… don’t you ever mention that fucker’s name ever again.” The way Nick responded had a mix of sorrow and anger.
“I have nothing to do with that abandoning scumbag- GURH!”.
The stranger crashed Nick over his shoulder, and pinned him to the ground.
“Don’t you ever even think about saying that again! Don’t you know how much he has sacrificed for the sake of his family!?”
After a few seconds, the stranger realized.
“Oh no you wouldn’t have known…”
The stranger sighed.
“Well I’d say that you’ve grown enough to learn the truth.”
“What truth?” questioned Nick.
“Well, I have quite a story to tell you.”
The stranger unpinned Nick and sat down on the floor. Urging him to sit as well. Nick complied, due to a mixture of fear and curiosity.
“I’m Jake Heure by the way. And this is what happened to your brother.”
“Oi, the hell you doin on our territory?”
This was said by William, leading a trio of himself, Jake, and Nelson.
“We’ve grown in numbers, strength, and skill. I’d say it’s about time we take this land for ourselves, don’t ya think?”
Barry spoke this, that scumbag was the leader of Frontburner.
“HAH, you think you can take this area from us? Hell fuckin naw. Even if you’ve grown, we are, and forever will be, the strongest in the city. Even if you send the whole city after us we will come out victorious.”
“Well, guess we don’t have a choice but to skirmish. Tyler, go after Jake for me will you? We don’t want him fully charging his Eisenhower or whatever it's called.”
Tyler ran straight at me, thankfully my reflexes were good enough for me to block the hit. I moved back to create some space between us, and then he unleashed his ability. A field of brightly colored flowers sprouted from the ground.
“Do you really think a few plants are going to hurt me, Flower Boy?” I mocked.
The flowers that sprouted under me suddenly spiked from the ground.
“Shit!”
I thankfully dodged that, if I didn’t I don’t know what would’ve happened to me. Anyways, he caused the flowers to turn into these tentacle things, and started striking them at me. I kept dodging, stuck on the defensive I didn’t know what to do. But then I noticed it, there was a rhythm, “left right left right left right”. I scoured the area for the concept I needed, and luckily it was there. The Golden Ratio. More commonly known in math as the fibonacci sequence, but either way the golden proportions were staring right at me. It felt great, I felt the elegance of the number pouring through my veins, I closed my eyes, I’ve finally reached my Golden Hour. I don’t remember much from that point of the day. I let the Golden Ratio control my movements, my actions, my choices. Until it was over. I reawoke seeing the flower kid on the floor, couldn’t tell if he was passed out or dead but I never saw him afterwards so take that as you will. I still felt the power of the ratio in my body, so I ran over to the rest of my group.
“And you won’t be able to do anything about it!” maniacally laughed Barry.
This was the first time I saw Nelson as mad and injured as he was. I was confused about what was happening but before I could even think of a question, he said.
“Get out. Jake take William somewhere safer, this has nothing to do with you two anymore.”
“Nelson what? What do you mean? Wh-” before I could ask my questions he yelled.
“Just get the fuck out of here!.”
I looked down, seeing a heavily injured and unconscious William
“What the hell!??! What happened!?!?!”
I picked him up, and ran for a safe spot to place him down, after I found a safe space I laid him down, and called for an ambulance. After which I ran back to make sure Nelson was safe, but when I got close enough to see him, he was lying on the floor heavily injured. Before I could rush in to save him, he used that.
“What’s that?” asked Nick.
“Well, I’m not sure if you knew this but your brother had the ability to manifest and manipulate bubbles, including what’s inside the bubbles as well.” answered Jake.
He continued, “And well, as a last resort he had..”
I was too late, he used his last resort, a massive bubble enclosed an area, containing the entirety of Frontburner and Nelson himself.
“You Idiot. Why… Why! Noooooooo!” I grieved.
Even though I knew he wasn’t dead yet, I knew he didn’t have a lot of time left. I couldn’t get close enough to hear his final words, the only thing I heard from him was
“I will never let my family die to scumbags like you!”
And then soon enough, the bubble popped. Leaving no one there. William got the help needed for him to live, and then we parted ways.
“I don’t remember the last time I even saw William.” ended Jake
Nick was unmoving, it was difficult for him to process this, seeing how this changed his whole perspective on what type of person his brother was.
“Hey wake up, you should probably get going home.” said Jake
“Oh uh, yeah, right.” blurted Nick.
Nick got up and continued his trek home.
“Jeez, not even a goodbye from that kid?”
Later in a forest, Jake is seen standing over something, that something being Nelson’s grave, hidden away from the world.
